Artist’s  Note
The theme "temporary settlement" particularly appeals to me and I instantly thought of an installation made of ideas and temporary expressions. The concept of "time" is profoundly inspiring in my work. I'm referring to my friend Lou, the enduring friendship we've shared for many years, and the inspiration she provides me. To further explore my vision of friendship evolving over time, and as a tribute to all the girlfriends I've lost due to growing up and moving away, I've chosen to collaborate with my friend Soanie to create an installation for this exhibition. I wanted to illustrate the journey made both by my paintings and by my studio mates. Soanie is a close friend whose work I deeply admire, so I proposed that we delve into the theme of friendship, focusing on Lou, and envisage an evolution, a timeline. I reminisce about my high school years and my closest friend. My primary medium is oil paint, although I also incorporate beads and glue into my work. I've opted to exclusively showcase portraits of my friend Lou; her bangs and her inherent beauty make her my muse. The various materials and colors symbolize different periods and aspects of temporality: blue for sadness, pink for beauty, and yellow for faith. I adopt a childlike painting style to reflect the innocence of my childhood friendship, utilizing beads and modeling clay to add dimension. Frames serve as a nod to childhood photo frames, emphasizing the dynamics of portraiture.
